Observations/unannounced and video taped
How many of you are given unannounced observations and are video taped? We were told at the beginning of the year that admin was going to have us video taped so we could use it as a reflection time to see where to improve our teaching. Admin did not tell us that it would be them taping us and that our refection would be with them. I have not seen the video from when I was observed and have to meet with admin next week to self-reflect about the lesson. I know when they came in but it seems weird that I do not get a chance to watch the video before meeting with them. They will have had a week to watch the video after they were in recording. Does this happen everywhere????

It doesn't happen in my district (at least not yet). It seems weird that you are being asked to reflect without being given time or space to reflect privately.

Our formal observations are not taped. We have the option to be taped by a teaching coach who helps us with things confidentially if we wish.

Several of the new teacher eval systems include unannounced observations (we're adopting Marshall). No mention of taping, but I do think one can learn a lot about oneself by watching a taped teaching session.

I have no problem being taped or meeting with admin to discuss. I would just like to have the ability to look and reflect before meeting with them.

Camera = Crappy performance. I would have a problem with this. Lots of camera anxiety.

I had it done...if she didn't say she was taping, I wouldn't have noticed. The camera she was using was like the size of a small cell phone, and she focused on the kids a lot too. It wasn't like a big camera in the back or anything.
