Printing English letters

Hello ,
I have a question for K teachers, I need to understand whether in printing English letters (these days) teachers teach students to write letters in certain ways, you know, how they have those worksheets (on EnchantedLearning, for example) where they have arrows where to start the letter, how to continue.

If a student comes to K knowing how to write letters, does it really matter what way he writes it, meaning, where she starts and finishes her letters?

My district does teach students to write letters a specific way. However, if a student already can write a letter legibly a different way, we do not force the student to change their writing.

My district teaches students to write in D'Nealian handprinting, so we teach them their letters in a specific way. Many of the letters transfer over from manuscript, but several are quite different and they need to change their writing style to fit the D'Nealian print.

Many printed letters' stroke directionality translate into proper cursive letter formation.

Oh, that's good to know, thanks! it's does make sense, too.

So, from what I understand, the 2 main styles being taught these days are Zaner Bloser and D'Nealian. And D'Nealian printing is so close to cursive writing that many kids (and adults) just use it as their normal writing style.
