I'm tutoring a 7th grade student who is ESL and we are currently doing test taking strategies. I've been noticing how he really needs vocab. I've been assigning him books, but I'm not sure how to direct teach vocab in a tutoring scenario and make it meaningful. Does anyone have any tips or resources?
Yes, you should use the Frayer model. I always preteach it before going into the text. Also, you need to incorporate the vocabulary into conversations. Doing it the one time is not recommended.
