It sounds like you and I are a lot alike. I'm nowhere near the typical image of a teacher. I'm casual and down-to-earth, and, let's face it, a total nutjob . I'm mature, yet immature. I feel like I've found a good balance, though.

For example, if a kid is getting b*tchy and/or sassy with me (or another kid), my go-to line (which unfortunately has become famous where I work) is "Check your sass. Don't you come in to my class with those claws."

It's almost impossible for me to be super serious when teaching, ESPECIALLY when I'm teaching theatre.

I had always worked with little kids. I like it, but I never had that maternal click. Now, when I work with high schoolers, I totally feel it. It's almost a big sister feeling. I want them to do well and succeed and try not to make my mistakes etc.... With little kids, I can't seem to see past the behavior to the joy. With older kids I feel more connected to them and can see how goofy and wonderful they are. I really feel like I was in the wrong age group. You might find that when you get to actually working with them, you find an age level you love.
