Having Fun with Foam Balls

I teach at May's Chinese School (Ann Arbor, Michigan). We bought a lot of foam balls from Scrap Box. They are great for teaching and playing. Here is one:

Dump our foam balls in our quiet activity area. Let the children play with them. Encourage them to count them up and count them down. Teach them to count two by two. Teach them concepts of “many”, “few”, and “same amount”. Have the children to create a sculpture by using the foam balls and other materials.

Super idea! Thanks for the sharing your skillful use of non traditional materials as a learning tool. I used to call these learning times "organic or valid" to bring to mind the fact the children were honestly playing and not being teacher lead in any manner. Thanks!
